The person should also be able to work well with all segments of the community and other agencies on projects, efficiently and effectively, that will enhance the quality of life. The minimum qualifications required to be a deputy sheriff are:
- to be of good moral character - at least 21 years of age - a South Carolina resident when commissioned - a United States citizen - able to successfully complete a medical examination, physical abilities test - psychological assessment, drug screening, and background investigation - have a High School diploma or GED certificate - have a valid South Carolina Driver’s License - have a good driving record - have a clean criminal history - have a satisfactory credit history - have an honorable military discharge (if applicable) |
