Interested persons enter a highly competitive selection process consisting of an oral interview board, rigorous background investigation, as well as physical and physiological testing. The ideal canadiate should have the knowledge and ability to communicate effectively with excellent written and verbal communication skills, work within a Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving environment to provide quality service to the community and all citizens of Laurens County. The person should also be able to work well with all segments of the community and other agencies on projects, efficiently and effectively, that will enhance the quality of life. The person should be able to work under pressure, exercise good judgment and make sound decisions in emergency situations. |
The minimum qualifications required to be a deputy sheriff are:
- to be of good moral character - at least 21 years of age - a South Carolina resident when commissioned - a United States citizen - able to successfully complete a medical examination, physical abilities test - psychological assessment, drug screening, and background investigation - have a High School diploma or GED certificate - have a valid South Carolina Driver’s License - have a good driving record - have a clean criminal history - have a satisfactory credit history - have an honorable military discharge (if applicable) |
