The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office is a community focused agency with a firm commitment to the citizens of Laurens County and to the philosophy of community oriented policing. The commitment of this division is displayed through many self-imposed values and projects that the sheriff’s office submits to daily.
This division is responsible for delivering D.A.R.E. training to any 5th grade school in Laurens County that may request the curriculum. Read more on the Laurens County Sheriff's Office D.A.R.E Program.
In addition to the D.A.R.E. Unit, the Community Services Division also oversees the implementation of School Resource Deputies in local school and Hospital Resource Deputies at the Laurens County Hospital. Crime Prevention is critical to improving the quality of life for communities throughout the nation. The Laurens County Sheriff's Office recognizes this and has devoted a resources to this committment. Read more about the Laurens County Sheriff's Office Crime Prevention Unit.
The Laurens County Sheriff's Office is proud to have established a Law Enforcement Explorer Post when Sheriff Ricky Chastain took over the helm in 2001. The Community Services Division is also known for it's unwavering efforts to improve and partner with the community. The Community Services Division provides a KidPrint Identification Service to the public. This service is at no charge to the community and is usually booked months in advance. The Christmas for Kids Program established by Sheriff Ricky Chastain in 1999 has become an annual fundraising event that has grown dramatically through the years and now provides assistance to hundreds of children and their families yearly during the Holiday Season. The Laurens County Sheriff's Office created the "One Community at a Time" initiative in 2013. This initiative seeks to create partnerships with businesses, government and non profit agencies, local churches and organizations, and members of the community to create a coalition of all the players involved to try and restore various communities in Laurens County that have seen a decline due to economic, social, and environmental issues.
