Led by certified Crime Prevention Specialist, Lt. Larry Young, the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office Crime Prevention Unit is committed to the task of stopping a crime before it can occur. Members of the unit assist with establishing, maintaining, and promoting Crime Prevention and Community Programs in Laurens County. The unit continuously works to establish and maintain an open line of communication with communities, businesses, and neighborhood watch organizations.
The Laurens County Sheriff's Office utilizes the community policing approach in crime prevention efforts. Community policing is a philosophy of policing based upon the premise that law enforcement officers and members of the communities they serve should create a partnerships and work together to solve problems related to crime and fear of crime. Crime prevention and community policing share a common purpose of reducing the threat of crime and making communities safer and more secure. Crime prevention and community policing compliment each other. Community policing involves reforming decision making processes and creating new cultures within law enforcement agencies. Crime Prevention provides information and skills that are essential to community policing. |
